Dr. Richard Johnson

 

 

Richard Johnson is an Anglo-Indian. He was born in Gaya, India in 1946 went to Goethals Memorial School in Kurseong and then to St. Xavier's College, Calcutta. He emigrated to Australia in 1969. Dr Richard Johnson is now a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Education, Deakin University, Melbourne. Richard's research and teaching interests include ways of internationalising the curriculum, through acknowledging the contribution of South East and South Asian knowledge bases. He is currently working on a research project entitled 'Exploring the Monsoon Wedding phenomenon of Indian students studying in Australia'. Richard was awarded a Rotary grant to work in Nepal and he has also taught in India. In 2007 he initiated a cross cultural project involving his teacher education undergraduate students working with students from Iran and Pakistan. In 2000 he was awarded The Vice-Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Achievement in teaching.

British Library India Office Family History Search

  • Indexes to 300,000 India-related BDM's, baptisms & burials, dating from c.1600-1949.  In addition to this, the site contains indexes to biographical notes from a number of sources. 

A2A - Access to Archives

  • Hosted by the National Archives (UK), this site offers an extensive range of catalogues which may be searched either individually or globally - one of which, relates to material held in the OIOC at the British Library.

Digital South Asia Library

  • An extensive range of digital resources of interest to anybody who has an interest in India. 

Internet Archive

  • This archive contains many books and other items relating to India & her history.  To view the books in their original format, you will need to download & run the DjVu plugin, available fromLizard Tech.  Some of the files are quite large, and can take a long time to download (especially if you have a dialup connection), but the Archive also offers plain text versions of most of the books on the site.  If you are researching Indian history or cultures, this site is a fantastic source of rare & out of print books relating to these areas of research.
